Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Corinna, Managing Director of Southside Fringe Festival
How did it all begin?
In 2009 a group of us creatives on the Southside got together to provide a platform for arts and music and created 'Further South', we put on our own events within the weekend of the old Southside Festival and developed various creative projects via La Roche Rumba, Carnivale Fatale and Sneek Show. We even had a small festival down in Dumfries - Rumba in the Roundhouse, we soon realised we were doing it back to front! In 2011 I joined the old Southside Festival team and began working on satellite events to accompany the existing festival over a weekend in May. We felt businesses weren't being promoted or served and tried to bring the festival back in to the main streets. Local promoter Crawford Smith came on board from 2012-2016 and together we gave it the push it needed and we delivered the first Southside Fringe in 2013. The rest is history as they say!
In 10 years....
We'll be bigger and better than the Edinburgh Fringe.
What is your favourite Shawlands business & why
That's impossible to answer as there are just too many great businesses to choose from.
If the Shawlands BID could grant one wish - what would it be?
Colourful flags and banners all over the Southside, and zig zagging Kilmarnock Road to celebrate the festival period, 10th - 26th May 2019
What 5 words describe running a business?
Challenging
Exhilarating
Tiring
Rewarding
Amazing!
If you did not have the Southside Fringe what would you be doing?
I gave up work as a freelance community development consultant and event manager to focus full time on the Fringe, I guess I would be doing what I do, but for other people's project's instead.
What is your favourite tune to keep you going during a busy day at work?
Pearl Jam - Just Breathe
Southside Fringe HQ is at 126 Kilmarnock Rd, Shawlands

Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Zoe and I own Hell Yeah, a gift shop dedicated to championing indie design. You can find us opposite the Co-Op and Cafe Strangebrew.
How did it all begin?
Hell Yeah started as an online shop just under a year ago. I've owned my own stationery business for 8 years and I've met so many talented makers over the years, I wanted to create a shop to showcase their wonderful stock and make it easier for locals to find the creme-de-la-creme of indie design. As the brand grew it felt logical to open a bricks and mortar shop too. I was in the Co-Op buying cat food one day and spotted the shop for rent, being a Southside girl it was an easy decision. The rest is history as they say!
In 10 years....
I'll hopefully have (finally) converted the basement to hold our weekly workshops and co-working space.
What is your favourite Shawlands business & why
Talk about a hard question! There's too many to choose from. I'm going to say Gizzi's because that's the last place I was and the food was incredible.
If the Shawlands BID could grant one wish - what would it be?
Cover up the bins and give me something pretty to look at, haha!
What 5 words describe running a business?
Rewarding, tiring, non-stop, sociable, resourceful.
If you did not have Hell Yeah what would you be doing?
Probably still working in my other businesses but I'd likely focus on my writing a little more. I'm in the middle of writing my second book, the first should be out this year. (Urban Fantasy set in Glasgow for anyone wondering!)
What is your favourite tune to keep you going during a busy day at work?
Ooft. Good question. Anyone that's been the shop will know I do love a good tune. It really depends on my mood, could be anything from Smokey Robinson to Odyssey, maybe a little Queen or Rick Springfield. Can't beat some First Kit or TLC...I'm going to have to settle for Sucker Punch by Sigrid...or maybe Don't Let Go by En Vogue. Hold up, let me fire up a playlist and get back to you on that one...
