We were successful in an application to Zero Waste Scotland for some assistance to select a preferred supplier for the area. Our aim with this project is to improve the service for the businesses along with saving money. The preferred supplier will be announced in March.
We are pulling together quotations for hanging baskets in Shawlands. Most of these will be hung from the lamp posts however in areas such as Deanston Drive where there are older lighting columns and Minard Road where there are no columns at the shops we will have to get permission from a number of businesses to have brackets attached to the shopfronts.
The Southside Fringe will be taking place 11th-27th May so if any business would like to register to become a venue please get in touch. “The Southside Fringe has really put the area on the map with it’s huge celebration of diversity of talent, skills and crafts bringing people together, and being an immeasurable boost to local people, business, culture and attracting visitors to what the Southside of the city has to offer!” – Gavin Mitchell – Boaby the Barman, Still Game www.southsidefringe.org.uk/
MY SHAWLANDS COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP
The Shawlands BID organised a local community clean-up on Sunday 18th March. Local residents, businesses and Councillor Anna Richardson attended the event as litter is a real concern for those who live and work in the area. The Butterfly and Pig provided a complimentary brunch once the hard work had been done. This is the beginning of a collaboration between businesses and residents to tackle the issue.
Discussions with Glasgow City Council regarding banners on the lamp posts are ongoing and we hope to have these in place for spring/summer.
